So here are some of our top tips on how to take care of our edible plants:
Chives "The Classy": this aromatic can be grown both outdoors and indoors. It resists very well the cold, and as it comes from cool climates it can be in the shade for hours, although it loves direct light and soft sun. In summer, it is convenient to locate it in semi-shade.
💧Watering should not be abundant and the frequency should be moderate.
Mint "The Fresh" : fresh and resistant, it can be grown both outdoors and indoors. It also loves cool areas, although it loves the sun.
💧It grows in spring and summer, that is why it needs more frequent and abundant watering during these seasons.
Cilantro "The exotic" and parsley "The soft": both are not very heat-loving, that is why if grown outdoors they will need semi-shade, and if grown indoors they will need direct sun.
💧Watering should be spaced out in winter and watered more frequently in summer to prevent the substrate from getting too dry.
Basil "The Italian": the most aromatic herb par excellence, it is one of the most delicate. If it is grown outdoors it needs semi-shade, and if it is grown indoors it needs direct sun.
💧It tends to dehydrate very easily, so it needs frequent watering as long as excess water is avoided.
Oregano "The wild card": The flavor of this aromatic can be damaged during its flowering (summer-late), therefore, it is very important to cut the flower heads to strengthen it and increase its flavor.
💧It needs regular watering, as long as there is no waterlogging as the roots may rot.
Rosemary "The marine" : this aromatic shrub needs a lot of light and direct sun, although during the summer it is better to place it in semi-shade to prevent its leaves from burning. It does not resist sudden temperature changes or frosts.
💧Being a characteristic shrub of the Mediterranean, it does not need constant humidity.
Dill "The Aniseed": It comes from temperate environments, it is better not to expose it to cold or wind currents. So we recommend to keep it indoors during the winter months. It needs direct sunlight both outdoors and indoors.
💧Special attention should be paid to its watering. If the substrate is compacted and does not drain excess water, the plant may eventually spoil. That is why it should be moistened only when the soil is dry.
Thyme "The potent": this Mediterranean bush loves the sun and direct light, but in summer, we advise to leave it in semi-shade.
💧It comes from a Mediterranean climate, it goes through periods of drought. We recommend not to overwater it because this shrub could rot.
In general:
If you have any of our aromatic plants outdoors, watering preferably is first thing in the morning, avoiding wetting the leaves or doing it in the afternoon when there is no more sun. And normally once a week would be enough. With the exception of the summer months, it is recommended to do it 2 or more times a week as long as the substrate can be drained and no water remains in it.
Keep your plants in shape 💪 : it is good to apply nutrients in the form of organic fertilizer or organic fertilizer intended exclusively for the cultivation of aromatic plants.
